Post-Treatment Instructions
Proper aftercare can help minimize bruising and irritation while supporting a comfortable recovery and optimal results from your wrinkle relaxer treatment. Please follow these instructions after your appointment.
IMMEDIATE CARE | First 4 Hours
Stay Upright
Remain upright for approximately 4 hours after treatment. Avoid lying flat or remaining in positions that place prolonged pressure on the treated areas.
Avoid Touching or Applying Pressure
Do not rub, massage, scratch, or apply firm pressure to the injection sites. Gentle cleansing is fine when needed, but avoid vigorous rubbing.
Avoid Tight Headwear
If your forehead or temple area was treated, avoid hats, caps, headbands, or other items that place significant pressure on the treated areas.
Be Gentle With Your Skin
Avoid vigorous facial massage, aggressive skincare, or devices that place pressure on the treated areas immediately following your appointment.
FIRST 24 HOURS
Avoid Strenuous Exercise
Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, intense cardio, or other activities that significantly increase your heart rate or cause excessive sweating for approximately 24 hours after treatment.
Light activity and normal daily activities are generally fine.
Avoid Excessive Heat
For the first 24 hours, avoid excessive heat exposure such as:
Saunas
Steam rooms
Hot tubs
Hot yoga
Tanning beds
Very hot showers or prolonged heat directly on the treated area
Limit Alcohol
Consider avoiding alcohol for approximately 24 hours after treatment, particularly if you are prone to bruising. Alcohol may increase bruising or swelling.
Medications & Bruising
Aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil®, Motrin®), naproxen (Aleve®), and certain other medications may increase bruising.
Do not stop or skip any prescribed medication because of your aesthetic treatment unless your prescribing healthcare provider has instructed you to do so.
If you need medication for pain or discomfort, contact your healthcare provider or injector if you are unsure what is appropriate for you.
Makeup
When possible, avoid applying makeup directly over fresh injection sites for approximately 6–12 hours.
If makeup is necessary, use clean hands or applicators and apply gently without rubbing or placing significant pressure on the treated areas.
FIRST 48 HOURS
Continue to Avoid Excessive Heat & Sweating
Avoid activities that cause prolonged excessive sweating or significant heat exposure if you are experiencing redness, swelling, or bruising.
Be Gentle With Bruising
Bruising can occur after injections and may last several days. Avoid rubbing or massaging bruised areas unless specifically instructed by your injector.
FACIAL & SKINCARE TREATMENTS
Allow the treated areas to settle before undergoing treatments that involve significant pressure, manipulation, heat, or irritation.
Unless otherwise instructed by your injector, avoid treatments such as:
Facial massage
Facials involving significant manipulation
Dermaplaning
Microneedling
Chemical peels
Laser treatments
Radiofrequency treatments
Microcurrent or other facial devices
The appropriate waiting period may vary depending on the treatment. Please contact Magnolia if you are planning another facial or aesthetic procedure shortly after your appointment.
WHAT TO EXPECT
It is normal to experience temporary effects at or around the injection sites, including:
Small raised bumps immediately after treatment
Mild redness
Mild swelling or tenderness
Minor bruising
Mild headache
Small injection-site bumps and redness typically resolve relatively quickly, while bruising may last several days.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Wrinkle relaxers do not work immediately.
You may begin noticing changes within the first several days following treatment. Results will continue to develop as the treated muscles gradually relax.
XEOMIN® results may begin to appear within several days, with results typically evaluated at approximately 14 days.
Please allow the full 14 days before evaluating your final result or determining whether additional treatment may be appropriate.
YOUR 2-WEEK FOLLOW-UP
If a follow-up assessment was recommended, the 2-week mark is the ideal time to evaluate your results.
During your follow-up, we can assess:
Your response to treatment
Facial symmetry and balance
Muscle movement
Whether your treatment goals were achieved
Whether any additional treatment may be appropriate
Avoid evaluating your results too early. It can take time for your wrinkle relaxer to reach its full effect.
WHEN TO CONTACT MAGNOLIA
Please contact Magnolia if you experience unexpected or concerning symptoms after treatment, including:
Increasing redness, warmth, swelling, drainage, or other signs of infection
Significant or persistent facial asymmetry
New or worsening eyelid or eyebrow drooping
Significant vision changes
Severe or persistent symptoms that concern you
Any reaction or symptom you are unsure about
SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION
Although serious complications are uncommon, seek immediate medical attention or call 911 if you develop:
Difficulty breathing
Difficulty swallowing
Difficulty speaking
Significant muscle weakness beyond the treated area
Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction
Do not wait for a response from Magnolia if you are experiencing a medical emergency.
