Pre-Treatment Instructions
Preparing for your appointment can help minimize bruising and irritation while supporting a comfortable treatment experience and optimal results. Please review the following instructions before your appointment.
1. Plan Ahead for Special Events
Whenever possible, schedule your treatment:
At least 2 weeks before a major event, vacation, wedding, or photo shoot
Approximately 4 weeks before if you would like additional time for your treatment to fully settle and for any recommended follow-up or refinement
This allows time for potential bruising or swelling to resolve and for your results to fully develop.
2. Stay Hydrated & Eat Normally
Drink plenty of water and have a light meal or snack before your appointment. Arriving hydrated and having eaten can help reduce the likelihood of dizziness or lightheadedness during treatment.
3. Arrive With Clean Skin
Whenever possible, please arrive with a freshly washed face free of
Makeup
Sunscreen
Skincare products
Clean skin helps us properly prepare the treatment area and minimize the risk of infection.
4. Avoid Alcohol for 24–72 Hours
Avoid alcoholic beverages for 24–72 hours before treatment, when possible. Alcohol may increase your risk of bruising and swelling.
5. Be Mindful of Medications & Supplements That May Increase Bruising
Certain medications and supplements may increase your risk of bruising or bleeding. Examples include:
Over-the-counter medications:
Aspirin
Ibuprofen (Advil®, Motrin®)
Naproxen (Aleve®)
Supplements:
Fish oil / omega-3 supplements
Vitamin E
Ginkgo biloba
Garlic supplements
Turmeric
St. John’s wort
Important: Do not stop any prescribed medication, including prescription blood thinners, unless your prescribing healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so. Please inform your injector about all medications and supplements you are taking before treatment.
6. Avoid Strenuous Exercise Immediately Before Treatment
Avoid strenuous exercise or heavy workouts for approximately 4 hours before your appointment. Intense exercise can temporarily increase blood flow and may contribute to bruising.
7. Avoid Excessive Heat & Tanning
For approximately 24–48 hours before treatment, avoid:
Tanning beds
Excessive sun exposure or sunburn
Saunas
Steam rooms
Hot yoga
If you have a sunburn or significant skin irritation in the treatment area, please contact Magnolia before your appointment.
8. Avoid Intense Facial Treatments
Depending on the treatment, avoid aggressive or irritating facial treatments for approximately 48 hours to 1 week beforehand, including:
Chemical peels
Microneedling
Laser treatments
Radiofrequency treatments
Aggressive exfoliation
Facial waxing or threading
These treatments may temporarily increase skin sensitivity, inflammation, or irritation.
9. Avoid Introducing New Active Skincare Products
For approximately 48 hours before treatment, avoid introducing new products that could irritate your skin, particularly:
Retinoids
Exfoliating acids
Strong active ingredients
Keeping your skincare routine simple before your appointment can help minimize irritation.
10. Let Us Know If You Become Ill
Please contact Magnolia before your appointment if you develop:
Fever
Cold or flu-like symptoms
Sinus or other active infection
Active skin infection, rash, or irritation near the treatment area
Active cold sores or a history of cold sores near the planned treatment area
Your appointment may need to be rescheduled depending on your symptoms, treatment area, and overall health.
11. Tell Your Injector About Recent Treatments or Procedures
Please let your injector know if you have recently had:
Dental work or dental procedures
Vaccinations
Facial surgery or procedures
Steroid injections
Antibiotic treatment
Other cosmetic injectable treatments
Your injector will determine whether any additional spacing between treatments is recommended.
12. Keep Us Updated About Changes to Your Health
Before treatment, please notify your injector if:
Your medications or supplements have changed
You have developed any new allergies
You experienced a previous reaction or complication from an injectable treatment
You are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to become pregnant, or undergoing fertility treatment
You have recently been ill or experienced a significant change in your health
Your safety comes first. If you are unsure whether a medication, health condition, procedure, or recent treatment could affect your appointment, please contact us before treatment.
